In blender, there are many ways to do the same thing. Here are a few keyboard shortcuts to make your life easier.
tab goes between object and edit mode
loop cut
knife tool, K, then C to constrain, pess shift while using knife tool to make it cut at center of the edge
merge by distance, alt M
